A+B on Lake Michigan

The nostalgia of a family cottage, passed down through generations — the beauty of the Lake — the way a lifelong friend just sees and knows you… just a few of the things that made Annie and Brayden’s wedding so magical. Grateful for these two and the way they felt like old friends from the day I met them.

Tiny backyard wedding

Jillian and Calder had envisioned a lakeside celebration with 150 of their favorite people, but COVID had other plans. Their pivot to a family-only wedding in the backyard of Jillian’s childhood home may have been plan B, but it couldn’t have been sweeter. While I can’t wait to someday soon be surrounded by a hundred strangers on a packed dance floor, these intimate days have stolen my heart. Grateful to have been there to celebrate with these incredible, gracious people.

Detroit City Hall wedding

We are living in unprecedented times. No life, no industry, is untouched by the pandemic we are currently experiencing. Though it's only been about a month, gathering in large groups seems like a dream of the distant past. I miss it so much and I'm sure most of you do too.

Many of my 2020 couples, especially spring ones, are currently reimagining what their wedding day will look like. Some are choosing to have an intimate celebration now and a larger celebration later. When you've spent 12 months dreaming of a 175 person party, it's hard to suddenly envision it with 20 people. I wanted to share K + Z's 2019 wedding to show just how beautiful a smaller event can be. While their wedding day ended with a dinner party of about 75 guests, the ceremony itself was just with immediate family. I loved their day so much -- one of my favorite parts was wandering through downtown Detroit for our casual portrait session -- so I'd want to share this even if it didn't feel so timely. But if you're in the middle of changing up your wedding plans, I hope it helps even a little bit for you to see just how magical an intimate city hall ceremony can be.

Please Note: This couple both worked for the City of Detroit at the time of their wedding. Though I’d be thrilled to chat with you about photographing your elopement, I’m unable to connect you with the resources to plan a city hall wedding of your own.

Something new.

I’m overcome with gratitude each time I sit down to work on this new site. Sorting through thousands of images from years of weddings — what an honor to have witnessed these moments. I’ll be sharing more wedding stories on this new blog very soon. Thanks for being here.
